On November 9, 2009, Tim Lowman spoke on Risk Management in Early Stage Technology at the ACCT (Association for the Commercialization of Canadian Technology) 5th Annual Meeting in Victoria BC.

Tim Lowman has been identified as one of the world's leading Intellectual Property strategists by the prestigious Intellectual Asset Management group in IAM 250 - A Guide to the World's Leading IP Strategists, published in April 2009. Over six months in 2008 and 2009, IAM researchers contacted a wide range of leading IP professionals in order to identify individuals considered to be world-class intellectual property strategists, whose business is the creation, development and deployment of strategies that enable rights owners to gain maximum value from their portfolios. Only those individuals identified and nominated by their peers are listed in the IAM 250.

Sim and McBurney has been ranked again in the leading Managing IP's 2009 World IP Survey among the top Canadian IP practices for our work in Patent Prosecution and contentious Patent, Trademark and Copyright matters. The World IP Survey is a major qualitative survey of IP practices based on interviews with the world’s top firms, their clients, and their competitors.

On November 11, 2008, Tim Lowman was admitted as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The Institute is a recognised world leader in providing training and qualifications in Arbitration, Mediation and Adjudication.

In a landmark decision released on November 6, 2008, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the validity of a system of genus and selection patents and further refined the law regarding the tests for anticipation and obviousness in Canada.

Tim Lowman's paper entitled "Intellectual Property Aspects of Labour and Employment in Canada: Ownership, Intangibles, Personal Rights and Transfers (With Forms)" has been selected for publication in the June 2008 volume of the ABA-ALI Business Law Journal.

On May 4, 2008, Tim Lowman and Ken McKay were granted the status of Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). The Certified Licensing Professional Program, an initiative of Licensing Executives Society (LES), recognizes the licensing professional’s experience, qualifications, education and professional development.
